Google Chrome for Mac officially coming this December
Although the iPhone/iPod touch OS is locked down with Safari, it is going to be hard for Apple to similarly lock down the OS of its coming tablet. Whether they are forced to allow competing browsers (ala Microsoft's monopoly and bundling Internet Explorer with Windows) or simply sideswiped by the not-so-underground Jailbreaking community, other browsers will find their way onto Apples coming Tablet. With that in mind, Google Chrome OS for Mac is some welcome news. While Google Chrome has been making PCs a more pleasant place for some time now, only a developers version of Google Chrome has been available for the Apple community. For those of you who don't know the difference, Google Chrome strips the web experience of most of its behind the scenes processing so that you are only downloading and computing the minimum of what you need to be doing. This makes old machines less likely to crash and makes actual browsing quicker and more fluid. But more importantly, a Google specific browser will inevitably integrate other Google products, leaving a backdoor around Apple's App store restrictions (think Apple blocking the Google Voice App) by allowing Google to flawlessly direct to their growing web apps that can be tailored into the Google specific Chrome browser.
So welcome Google Chrome for Mac, and let's get that Google Chrome for Touch OSX ready to go!
